Every article about night trains, including several of mine, uses the word nostalgia within the first paragraph. I would like to retire it.
A sleeper is a way of moving a thousand people between two capitals overnight, using existing track, with a fraction of the emissions of the aircraft that would otherwise carry them. That is not a sentiment. It is a piece of infrastructure, and it should be funded like one.
The carriages are the bottleneck, and carriages are a solvable problem. Order them. The demand is already standing on the platform.
